Indian Battle Field

This innocent looking pile of rocks has a brief moment in history. As the Nez Pierce indians with Chief Joseph were fleeing the U.S. Calvary, they caught an advanced guard of troops by surprise. The soldiers were camped in a depression in the flat landscape. When the indians attached, they set up makeshift battlements just large enough for one soldier to lay in a prone position while he fired at the attackers. These rocks are in the same position, 120 year later.
