Why? Momentary or sudden power outages can seriously damage either your valuable data or the hardware in your computer. A UPS (or battery backup system) will provide you with enough power to safely exit your applications and power off your system in the event of a power loss (a UPS is not designed or intended to power your system indefinitely). Power dips or brownouts can produce voltage “spikes” that can also damage your system. A good UPS will prevent most voltage spikes from ever reaching your computer.
