Welcome to historic Gwin's Lodge, one of Alaska's oldest traditionally built log roadhouse lodges. Celebrating it's 55th year of service in 2006, Gwin's is built from Spruce logs harvested from the surrounding Chugach National Forest, and is a Kenai Peninsula landmark. Cutting, hauling and hand-peeling the logs in true pioneer fashion, Pat and Helen Gwin completed and opened the lodge on January 1, 1952. The lodge and our guest cabins were restored to their original condition in 1995 and in 2005. Located at the absolute heart of the Kenai Peninsula and along a portion of the Sterling Highway designated an "Alaskan Scenic Byway", Gwin's is the closest full-service lodge to the Kenai & Russian River's Confluence, the most productive Sockeye (Red) Salmon sport-fishery on Earth and the finest road accessible Rainbow Trout fishery in Alaska. The "Old Russian River Ferry", the predecessor to the current tethered barge of this world renown fishery, proudly rests besides Gwin's Lodge, restored by our staff in 1995 and in 2003 to it's original 1940's forest green colors. Together, the lodge and the ferry represent the pioneer spirit of a bygone era that independent Alaskans and visitors alike seek during visits to the beautiful Upper Kenai River area.

For over half a century, Gwin's Lodge, has been a rest haven and access hub for enjoying outdoor recreation activities on the beautiful and bountiful Kenai Peninsula. Abundant wildlife and Alaska flora abound in nearby forests while the aqua, glacial waters of the Kenai River and the gin-clear waters of the Russian River that flank Gwin's Lodge are among the best Salmon and Rainbow Trout fisheries in the world. Visit our fishing tackle shop & store to buy fishing gear, shop one of the Kenai Peninsula's best embroidered clothing showrooms, or book from a wide selection of exciting river, marine, and remote, fly-in sportfishing; fly-in bearviewing & salmon fishing combos; river rafting; scenic/wildlife viewing rafting, whitewater rafting; flightseeing; Kenai Fjords cruises; horseback riding; helo fly-in dogsled tours; & kayaking tours.

Northmost Covered Bridge In North America
The northernmost covered bridge ever built in North America was less than a mile from Gwin's Lodge. The Schooner Bend Covered Bridge, built over the Kenai River in 1929, was at the bend of the river near the road into the Russian River Campground. Also called the "trysting bridge" for the romatic liaisons that occurred there. Only 7 miles of road existed, running from Cooper Landing to the Russian River. The bridge was removed in 1955 and replaced by the current bridge just west of Gwin's.

The store also has the best array of sport-fishing logo embroidered garments on the Kenai Peninsula. The large clothing section has high quality fleece-lined jackets, polar fleece jackets and vests, sweatshirts, long-sleeve Henley's, mock turtle necks, T-shirts, hats, and suspenders. Whether purchased for yourself or as gifts for family and friends, the "Alaska", "Kenai River Alaska", "Russian River, Alaska"; and "Gwin's Lodge" name dropped sport fishing and scenery embroidered will remind you of this beautiful section of Alaska. Don't forget to take the Gwin's Lodge Store coupon from the Restaurant place-mat, over to the store to save 10% off your purchases.
