WIN YOUR HORSE'S HEART (Be a Better Horseman) Sherry's book will be available March first 2009
It is a must-read for those who love horses This is a "horse" book but really it is even more than that. It is about building relationships with trust respect and love. It is about self-acceptance, making choices, problem solving, and allowing for compromise. It is about effective communication, leadership and confidence. This is an important book about our self-discovery of the need for a makeover for the way we think about and interact with horses. A way which is more natural from the horse's point of view. This book tells stories of life lessons which horses can teach us. And how a good partnership improves our quality of life. But most of all it is about winning a horse's heart in an unselfish way. Book Synopsis There are only two kinds of people: Those who love horses and those who don't. This book is definitely for those who do love horses, whether you own one or not. Sherry's passion and love for horses has driven her to write a book which will change your way of thinking and acting so you can win any horse's heart. When a horse gives you his whole heart he will jump higher, run faster, stop quicker, slide further, spin better, and be safer. There is nothing you can't do together when a horse becomes a part of you. Dreams are sure to come true to those who follow the common sense principles presented in this book, with real life stories to support the practices.
You will learn what it means to be natural with a horse and how to develop a working partnership. You will gain more knowledge and insight about attitudes which can help eliminate frustrations with horses. You will discover practical ways to overcome fears, build confidence, communicate more effectively and become the kind of leader your horse needs you to be. The personal horse stories will touch your heart as you realize that winning a horse's heart is the ultimate prize in horsemanship.

Excerpt from Ginger Story: Grandma said she was the color of ginger spice, thus we named her Ginger. This exceptional Shetland pony would win the hearts of many for over thirty years. She was only two years old with big soft brown eyes, a white blaze on her face, and a long shaggy golden mane and tail when my dad bought her in 1960. He hand picked her for us because he wanted to share the love and passion he had for horses with his family, in hopes we would follow in his footsteps. I fell in love with Ginger from the moment I set eyes on her, and I inherited my Dad’s passion. Ginger was sent to school for a couple of years before I could ride her by myself since I was only two years old at the time dad bought her. Ginger went to live with my uncle Dale on an isolated ranch in the sandhills of central Nebraska. He had three boys older than me who rode her several miles to school every day. These boys were rough tough cowboys. I am pretty sure they didn’t have much finesse...

Before you read one more "how-to" book, it's absolutely necessary that you read Win Your Horse's Heart because if your whole way of THINKING about the human/equine relationship doesn't change, all the how-to books in the world aren't going to work for you. And once your perspective changes, everything else will fall into place and you'll be amazed how "easy" your training becomes. This book and Tom Widdicombe's Be With Your Horse ought to be the bibles given with every horse purchase.Buffy: New Zealand
I am so happy to hear from you! I was actually planning to call you in the next couple of days to tell you how much I enjoyed your book. It made me laugh and cry. It was such a wonderful testament to the power of natural horsemanship. I was inspired and touch by it very much. I especially identified with your memories of the horses you owned before you became "enlightened" (smile). I, too, remember the first few horses I owned as a young girl and wish I had understood them more. I unfairly blamed them for a lot of things that were my fault and wasn't as patient with them as I've learned to be. I appreciated how you weren't too hard on yourself, because your actions were based on your knowledge at the time. Thank you for writing the book and sharing your story with others. Tammy
Hi sherry. just wanted to drop you a line and say THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR MY BOOK AND SIGNING IT FOR ME!!!!!! It was good to see you in person at the expo. I have started reading your book and am really enjoying it. I have a coming 5 yr old gelding that is very curious and I find myself frustrated with him alot!!!!! But I waited for him to put his attention back to me while working with him like you suggested and I'll be darned if he didnt PAY ATTENTION BETTER!!!!!!!! I cant wait to finish it!!!Megan I have read your whole book! I have sat here in my chair with my blanket over me, only interrupted by the occasional break. This book brought me to tears and then to joy. I have dog tagged the pages that I will reread. I loved the stories about Sunshine, Cisco, Dolly, and Slick.
You have written this book well and my congratulations to you for doing such a good job. I’m kinda glad I was sick as it would’ve been VERY difficult to put this one down! I look forward to learning more from you at the clinic in June and many other sessions after that.
Thanks Sherry for being a stabilizing force for me and my wacky thoughts regarding horsemanship. You really get it and it is very apparent-I look forward to the mentor/mentee relationship we can build.
Ok, just read “Trail of Inspiration for the Journey” and I am in tears. I feel like you wrote this for me. My first real trail ride as Cunningham Lake with Michelle was beautiful and without fault. It was magical. Your poem is that day for me. Michele
I have the last 15 pages to go before finishing your book, but I already know that it's one of the most important ones I've read. AND I'VE READ 'EM ALL!!!!!
I wanted to congratulate you on your enormous, significant contribution to the wealth of equine training/behavioral literature out there. My own personal opinion is that the reason there "needs" to be so many different "how-to" books on empathetic horsemanship is that the most critical first phase to those books is either always missing, or certainly nowhere nearly as well written and cogently presented as you have done in your new book. That missing element is the entire change in THINKING and BEING that is absolutely necessary before all the very best intentioned techniques can have any hope of effectiveness, let alone success.
I'm about to order 10 more copies as (necessary) gifts. I thank and applaud you again, Corey
Your book arrived on Mar. 11th and I have read it from cover to cover. Also, I have highlighted and underlined throughout its entirety. It brought back a flood of memories for me and I did cry where it really touched me. Presently, I am reading from the beginning again and find it difficult to put down. Joan
I just finished your book and I loved it!!!!!!!!! I am going to start reading it AGAIN!! Sharon
Finished your book, I really liked it. It was just like sitting down and having a conversation with you, all of your principals, beliefs and priorities were laid out in a very easy to read fashion. There was no place in the book that I want to lay it down. Actually I kept paging ahead to get sneak peaks. Congrads again! What a wonderful job you did. Jessica
Just wanted to pass along a huge thank-you for your time and commitment to training people to be better companions for their horses as well as better leaders...my daughter, Jessica, and I learned a lot watching your clinic.
I have done lots of reading, Mark Rashid, Buck Brannaman, watching Monty Robert's on-line videos, as well as purchased Stacy Westfall's videos. I enjoyed your presentation and the way you work with the horses and really appreciate the way you explain every step you are making with the animal. I really wish we had brought our gelding along to work that day...hope we can catch you again in this area. I have tried the breathing/relaxing techniques with him and another horse we have and it really does make a difference, COOL!
I'm halfway through your book and it is well written and interesting enough I don't want to put it down.
Again thank you for your time and effort, putting yourself in all that you do for these magnificent creatures God has given us to care for...the best to you...Jamie

Press Release for New Horse Book
"Win Your Horse's Heart" (And Be a Better Horseman)

Release of New Horse Book by Burwell, NE Author Sherry Jarvis
Sherry grew up in Burwell, NE. She inherited her Dad’s passion for riding horses. Sherry has been in love with horses since she was two years old when her Dad bought her first pony named Ginger. Horses have been an important part of her life as long as she can remember. Through competition in rodeos and horse shows from a young age horses taught her many life lessons. Both success and failure with horses motivated Sherry to dig deeper learning more about how horses think and why they do what they do so she could get better results with them. By learning from her mistakes Sherry has discovered many of the problems people have with horses are misunderstandings because of the difference between the way prey animals and predators think and act. The book “Win Your Horse’s Heart” (Be a Better Horseman) published by Wingspan Press, on-sale March 1, 2009) will not only entertain you but change the way you think about horses. The principles presented in the book about leadership, confidence, relationships, and communication can be transferred to benefit other areas of life even if you don’t own a horse.
WIN YOUR HORSE'S HEART (And Be a Better Horseman) is a must-read for those who love horses. This is a "horse" book, but really it is even more than that. It is about building relationships with trust respect and love. It is about self-acceptance, making choices, problem solving, and allowing for compromise. This is an important book about self-discovery of the need for a makeover for the way we think about and interact with horses. There is a way which is better for the horse, because it is approached from the horse's point of view. This book tells stories of life lessons which horses can teach us, and how a good partnership improves our quality of life. But most of all it is about winning a horse's heart in an unselfish way.

The personal horse stories will touch your heart as you realize that winning a horse's heart is the ultimate prize in horsemanship
For ages the relationship between man and horse has been both positive and negative mainly because there was a need for horses as a work animal. This is truly an amazing time in horse history where horses are now kept more for their beauty and companionship than out of necessity. There are more horse owners today who have a horse for fun than those who make a living with them. Because of this we live in a time when a very few people can make a very big difference for horses everywhere. Sherry hopes to be one of those people who can make a difference by inspiring and motivating others.
Five years ago Sherry quit her school teaching job to follow her passion for teaching horses and people full time. Heart in Your Hand Horsemanship was born because she is dedicated to understanding how horses and humans tick. The business is driven by her vision to guide people and their equine friends into a true partnership where they are able to work and play in harmony together. Sherry wrote “Win Your Horse’s Heart” in hopes that by reading the book horse lovers everywhere will be united toward improving the quality of life for the horse by becoming even better horsemen. By taking a fresh perspective towards horsemanship where we begin to look at life from the view point of the horse when we are in his world we will earn his respect and trust. In return he will give us his heart and there isn’t anything he won’t do for us when this happens. We hope you will help us make a difference in the lives of horses and horse lovers by ordering a copy and passing the word about this book along to your friends and associates.
