TIPS FOR MANAGING STRESS
1. Find time every day to build in 20-30 minutes for “down” time.
This means that you are doing something that relaxes you and causes NO stress to you in any way. For some it might be to take a bath, get a massage, take a nap, a walk or put on some headphones and listen to music or a relaxation CD. This is not a luxury; it is an important part of staying well when life is stressful.
2. Learn to do deep breathing techniques when you awake and before you go to bed.
Deep breathing helps you relax and reduces your blood pressure.
3. Reduce your sugar intake and eat regular small, protein-based meals every 3-4 hours.
Stabilizing your blood sugar adds energy and stamina to your day.
4. Make exercise a part of every day. Regular exercise helps reduce the effects of stress on the body.
5. Take a regular vacation!! Time away is critical to surviving the day to day.
6. Drink water throughout the day. Dehydration causes additional stress on the nervous system and will create joint and muscle problems.
7. Reduce the intake of soda pop. Sodas drain the body of minerals and artificial sugars can cause fatigue and headaches.
8. Eat fresh fruits and vegetables as often as possible. Packaged foods have no enzymes and can lead to a depletion of energy.
9. Get outside and enjoy the sunshine, some sun is necessary to a healthy body!! And it improves mood.
10. Get regular, good quality sleep. Missing sleep or not having a regular sleep pattern can cause much disruption to the nervous system.
