Cindy not only writes and sings about families living with memory loss, she shares their experiences. Cindy’s mother was an Alzheimer’s sufferer who inspired Cindy’s first musical ballad about memory loss – The Queen of Norway. On stage Cindy tells the story of her mother’s world in which she became the Queen of Norway. You can read this great story by clicking here.
The love and understanding continues....in 2006 Cindy and husband Mike bought the Highland Alzheimer’s Care Home in Jackson, Michigan. With their hands on leadership Highland has become a pace setter in Alzheimer’s resident care based upon home like living that extends quality of life through the family’s suffering with the memory loss disease of their loved one.
Championing the cause of people who are going through times of great family suffering is not new to Cindy who has performed, for the past twenty some years as a Roving Minstrel in the annual Madrigal Dinner to benefit Hospice services in Chippewa County, Michigan. In 2009 Cindy’s original song "Christmas Song" is being used as the music to promote the Fund Raising Dinner and Cindy will be the featured performer singing her “Christmas Song”. For more about the Madrigal Dinner click here.
At Highland, Cindy and Mike have established a Memory Garden that memorializes past residents with a Day Lilly and features an annual event to raise money for the Alzheimer’s cause.
In another project to bring Alzheimer’s suffering into the mainstream of understanding and compassion, Cindy is an active member of the group that puts on the annual Memory Walk in Jackson, MI. that raises money to help fund efforts to discover the cause and develop prevention approaches for the Alzheimer’s disease.
And the beat goes on...Cindy is in the early stages of forming a non-profit organization to provide funding for Alzheimer’s sufferers who can not afford the level of care that extends their quality of life.
Be sure to visit with Cindy at one of her concerts and do all that you can to support the families that you know that are living with the life altering impact of Alzheimer’s disease.
