We are a city of 1580 people located in the northeast corner of Nebraska, in Dakota County. Dakota City is at the head of navigation on the Missouri River.

The original town of Dakota City was laid out two miles east and west with the eastern border of the town marked by the bank of the Missouri River. The main street, Broadway, also was laid out east and west. As the name Broadway implies the 150 foot wide street is one of the widest main streets ever laid out in Nebraska.
