Congratulations to Laura Beth Correll (center) who was crowned Linton Freedom Festival Queen for 2007. First runner-up was Elisha Emmons (right) and the second runner-up was Whitley Fusco (left).

Correll crowned Freedom Festival Queen
By Halea Franklin, staff writer Laura Beth Correll, the daughter of Brian and Sara Correll, was crowned the 2007 Freedom Festival Queen on Saturday night in the Linton-Stockton High School auditeria.
Elisha Emmons, the daughter of Rodney and Carla Miller, was named first runner-up, while Whitley Fusco, the daughter of John and Kathy Fusco, was named second runner-up.
As Freedom Festival queen, Correll will receive a $500 scholarship, while Emmons, as runner-up, will receive a $200 scholarship.
Other contestants in the Linton-Stockton Chamber of Commerce sponsored event were:
€ Rachel Bredeweg, the daughter of Rodney and Rene Bredeweg
€ Hannah Gennicks, the daughter of Frank and Beth Gennicks
€ Amber Hyatt, the daughter of Terry and Lois Astleford
€ Jessica Keller, the daughter of Bill and Meleah Keller
€ Katherine Seat, the daughter of Eric and Janice Wilson
€ Trisha Shields, the daughter of Verlin and Melissa Shields
In addition, Caleb Dunkerly, Evan Lewellyn and Bryant Meng, all seniors at LSHS, served as escorts.
Contestants were judged on a packet of submitted information, interview, sportswear, formal wear and on stage question. The packet was worth 15 points, as was the sportswear, formal wear and on stage questions. The interview portion of the contest was worth 40 points.
Throughout the evening, Kelsey Andis and Lindsey Jones provided entertainment. Together, Andis and Jones performed Katrina and the Waves' “I'm Walking On Sunshine” and Rascal Flatts' version of “Life Is A Highway.” Andis also performed Carrie Underwood's “Don't Forget To Remember Me” and Miranda Lambert's “Kerosene.”
Judges for the event were Sandy Bowen, who owns a beauty salon in Robinson, Ill., Tara Tate, who serves as Indiana director for Dream Girls Pageant and serves as a pageant coach, and Matt Pieper, who works at WTWO Newschannel Two in Terre Haute.
Correll, a senior at Linton-Stockton High School who plans on attending Indiana University to study music education, will represent the Linton-Stockton Chamber of Commerce at various Freedom Festival activities. Correll, along with Emmons and Fusco, will ride on the Chamber's float in the 102nd annual Linton Freedom Festival Parade.
