Log Repair & Cob Blasting Restoration
|
|
We have a lot of work ahead of us on this job. Check back to see the progress. 1. We are completing extensive log repair of these handcrafted Lodge Pole Pine logs on several sides of the house. 2. We are replacing many of the log ends. 3. All of the log rails are being replaced. 4. We are cob blasting to remove the old finish and restaining with Sikkens Log & Siding in Cedar #077. 5. Finally we will be touching up the chinking to update the seal and provide the aesthetic look the home owners want.

Several factors lead to the extensive log rot on this home. 1. Too small overhangs allowed Mother Nature constant access to the logs. 2. Upward facing checks in the logs were not caulked over the years allowing water to get into the logs. 3. General lack of maintenance over the years did the rest of the damage.

Under windows and log ends are both typical places you see log rot needing refacing and replacing.

The small overhangs did not protect the logs on this wall. The log rails were also so damaged that they needed complete replacment. You can see the white cedar log rails have been replaced. We will also be installing an overhang on this back wall to extend over the log ends too this will give additional protection against future rot and damage.
