Wildflowers remain a strong theme to encourage visitor and resident appreciation of the natural beauty of Nebraska. The Northeast Nebraska RC&D Council has produced a series of four "wildflower" postcards to help celebrate and publicize this natural beauty found statewide.

Dame's Rocket, introduced from Europe as an ornamental, has proven to be so successful that it is often used in roadside seedings. The brilliant lavendar flowers bloom in May and June and send off a sweet evening fragrance.

Gaillardia's daisy-like flowers are shades of yellow, bronze and scarlett, bloom summer to fall and are often used as cut flowers. Gaillardia is native to the northern Great Plains and the Midwest. This postcard also features a monarch butterfly.

A bee gathering nectar from a sunflower is a common site in Nebraska. Most sunflowers, seen from border to border and across the Great Plains, bloom later in the season and color the grasslands as fall approaches.

Canada Goldenrod is found statewide and blooms in August and September. It grows 2-4 feet tall and has small yellow flower heads arranged along the upper side of the branches, usually in a plume-shape. Nebraska's state flower, late goldenrod, is more robust and is larger.
