Good Evening, VA Nurses!

Come and meet the legend and the man behind the movie “Good Morning, Vietnam!” Adrian Cronauer will be our Master of Ceremonies for the NOVA Foundation Gala on May 9, 2007!

Adrian co-authored the original story for Good Morning, Vietnam! He is an expert on the role of military radio in Vietnam and he was the voice behind the microphone that broadcasted to our troops during the Vietnam conflict. His character was played by the legendary Robin Williams in this historic and funny film.

The theme of the Gala is: Celebrating the Legacy of VA Nursing: a Profession and a Passion. We are planning a stunning event highlighting VA nursing and featuring renowned VA nursing leaders, a cocktail reception, silent auction and dinner. The atmosphere will be less formal than galas of the past; the attire will be business and the color scheme will be dynamic—red, silver and black. Please join us for this exciting Nurses Week event to raise money for NOVA Foundation scholarships and research grants!

Adrian promises to bring another stellar performer to the Gala, so stay tuned for more announcements as to the identity of our mystery guest!

Also remember, in honor of this special occasion, the NOVA Foundation has developed two special awards: the NOVA Foundation Legacy Award for Leadership and the Legacy Award for Clinical Excellence. While every VA nurse contributes to the legacy of VA nursing, the recipients of these awards display professionalism and actions that go above and beyond their normal duty and responsibilities. Please see www.vanurse.org for more details.

And, in conjunction with our Nurses Week theme, we are featuring an essay/poetry contest. Please submit an essay or a poem describing the legacy of VA nursing or your personal legacy as a VA nurse. The contest is open to any current or retired VA nurse. The essay or poem should not exceed one typed page (12-font) and can be submitted via the webpage, email or regular mail to National Office and must be postmarked by April 1, 2007.

The winning essay or poem will be read by Adrian during the gala, so get your creative juices flowing and send your essay or poem to sdove@wsba.com!

It will indeed be a Good Evening, VA Nurses—an event you do not want to miss!
