Janet Minard, RN, BSN, RN-BC (Gerontological Nurse) has been proudly serving veterans and their families in various capacities since 1979 - at times as a volunteer, but mainly as a civil servant. She began her career in nursing as a GPN at the VAMC in Cheyenne, Wyoming (Extended Care unit). Due to the moves associated with her husband's Air Force career, she was soon transferred to the VAMC in Albuquerque, New Mexico, working as an LPN on the Pulmonary/Extended Care unit, and the Neurology/Neurosurgery unit. - and attended classes toward her RN degree at the University of New Mexico. Next they moved to England where Janet worked at the Department of Defense Dependent School (DODDS), providing basic first aid, vision/hearing screening and health/wellness education to the students and staff, and also covered as a substitute - and where she continued her education via correspondence courses at the University of Wyoming. Upon returning to the U.S., she served veterans both active and retired, along with their families at the Griffiss Air Force Base Hospital, Clinic in Rome, NY. Her main areas were Primary Care, Surgery, Allergy and Internal Medicine clinics. She continued attending classes toward her Associates Degree in Nursing at Mohawk Valley Community College and Utica College of Syracuse, graduating in 1993. She also worked as an RN at non VA facilities in New York and Massachusetts, until her husband's retirement from the military and a permanent move to Pennsylvania. Returning to the VHA at the Lebanon VAMC, she has worked there as a Staff Nurse, Nurse Manager and now RAI/MDS Coordinator in Extended Care since 1994. While at the Lebanon VAMC, she attended Kutztown University completing her BSN in 2003.

Janet became a NOVA member upon her entry into the Lebanon VAMC and has served in the local chapter in various capacities: Vice-President, and then President. During her long-term presidency, she worked at rebuilding the chapter and doubling the membership, turning over the reigns in 2008. "I have continued serving as the chapter contact and am honored to serve NOVA as a National Board Member."
