Philadelphia VAMC
Dolores ("Dee") J. Zander, MSN, RN-BC is the Quality Management Specialist for Geriatric Medicine at the Philadelphia VAMC. She has worked in the VA system since 1979, and continuously since 1992, working at the Coatesville, Battle Creek, and Philadelphia facilities. She has worked in the roles of staff nurse, Nurse Manager, and quality management, with a primary focus in geriatrics. She is the POC for VISN 4 regarding RAI/MDS, and chairs the National RAI/MDS POC Advisory Committee.

Dee received a diploma in nursing in 1974 from the Coatesville Hospital School of Nursing (now Brandywine Hospital), a BSN from Immaculata University in 1998, and a MSN in Nursing Leadership from Wilmington University in 2002. She is ANCC certified as a Gerontological Nurse since 1999, and is a member of NAHQ, AALTCN, Sigma Theta Tau and NGNA. Dee is an adjunct faculty member at Immaculata University teaching in the RN-BSN program.

An active member of NOVA for many years, Dee served as president of the Coatesville VAMC chapter until her transfer to the Philadelphia VAMC in 2008. She is currently involved in getting this chapter reactivated.

Dee’s goal as a NOVA Board member is to work collaboratively with other members of the Board to develop and implement strategies that promote the immeasurable value of RN involvement in this professional organization. She feels strongly that the development and strengthening of local NOVA chapters is needed to provide facility-level opportunity for involvement in a professional organization that is well aware of the unique needs of the VA nurse, and values their commitment.
