First on today's agenda was Sue Mason, Director of Visitor Services, San Diego CVB, who gave us a most interesting overview of the many places to go and sights to see in beautiful San Diego!
|
|
|
|
James Newton, Founder of the Newton Learning Corp., was this year's keynote speaker. He spoke to us on "Changing Times, Changing Minds", and gave us much to think about in terms of examining our own addictive behaviors and strategies -- and looking at things from a much different perspective.
|
|
|
|
|
|
Along with many recommendations for further reading materials, he also explored Senge's "5 Disciplines for Success": 1) Personal Mastery or self-awareness; 2) Challenging Mental Models; 3) Team Learning [from mistakes and letting go of blame & judgement]; 4) Shared Vision whereby people tend to support what they helped create; and 5) Systemic Thinking - seeing the whole picture.

The Annual Business Meeting wrapped up the morning's general session with the Election of the Officers & Directors. The officers for 2006 are: President-Bob Titterington, Phoenix Mfg. Vice-President-Robbie Fogle, Desert Extrusion Secretary-David Duffee, BEBCO Treasurer-Chris Fehn, Griffiths & Beerens
The new Directors for 2006 are: Susan Chaney of K-C Sales Co., Ed Nelson of Rotary Corporation and Bob Wehmueller of Prime Line Power Equipment Parts.

Sunday was indeed a busy day, as a luncheon was then served -- featuring Dale Evenson, Chairman of The Kalmar Group, who spoke on "What Is A Trimmer?". Mr. Evenson gave us an in-depth look of the evolution of today's popular string trimmer.

|
|
The meeting resumed after lunch with Bill Knasinski, V.P.-Parcel & Logistics Solutions at GENCO speaking on "Understanding & Reducing Your Transportation Costs".
Breakout Sessions were then held featuring Bill Harley of OPEI, Bill Knasinski with a Q&A, James Newton with a Q&A, and various members of the Market Analysis Committee reporting on "Market Share Updates".

Sunday night's highlight was "An Evening Adventure" at the San Diego Zoo, meeting some of the animals and followed by a wonderful dinner!

Peter Ariens introduced us to Richard Carr, Vice Chairman of the Board of TEC, an international education and development organization of CEOs. Mr. Carr spoke to us on building "Better Leaders, Decisions & Results" through TEC, whose mission is to increase the effectiveness and enhance the lives of chief executives.

Kelly Yunker, President of Power Equipment Systems, and current President of OPEESA spoke on "Ideas For Powering Distributor Success" with details on her association with OPEESA.
William S. Bergman, CAE, OPEAA's Executive Vice President then presented his annual "Washington Outlook".

And, in celebration of OPEAA's 20th Anniversary, David Errick, President of D.E. Errick, Inc. and one of the OPEAA founders, presented us with some of the history of exactly how OPEAA came to be with his talk: "OPEAA - How It Began".
Then as usual -- it was "grab your clubs, and off to the bus" for OPEAA's golfers... while others headed for the Harbor and the Whale & Dolphin Watching Cruise.

Tuesday's speaker was John Enneking, V.P. of Operations for Stens Corporation. John spoke on "Lean -- What Is It?", and reported on his "Lean Journey" with Stens, and challenged all companies to question and look closer at their own operations in a quest for more productive and profitable businesses.
|
|
|
|
Bill Harley, President of the Outdoor Power Equipment Institute (OPEI) presented his "OPEI Outlook", with very interesting insights and comments on various factors affecting our industry today.
And, after meeting the new OPEAA President for 2006, Bob Titterington, President of Phoenix Manufacturing Co., the 2006 Annual Meeting was adjourned.
