2008 Recipients


This year, the Bill Nelson Scholarship Endowment has awarded three scholarships, each in the amount of $2,000. The recipients are Wes Harmelink of Travelers Rest, South Carolina, and Trent Hart & Christopher Waters both of Glennville, Georgia.

Clemson University


Wes received a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Marquette University and is currently pursuing a Masters Degree in Business Administration at Clemson University. Mr. Harmelink has received a 4.0 grade point average, and has been active in the Mechanical Engineering Honor Society and Tau Beta Pi. He has participated in the Race for Children's Hospital, as well as volunteered for Hunger Cleanup and Florida Hurricane Charlie Relief.

He remarked that "accomplishing my MBA will bring me one step closer to becoming one of the next generations of business leaders needed to strengthen our economy". Mr. Harmelink is employed by the OPEAA member company, Liquid Combustion Technology.


Trent Hart
University of Georgia


Trent will be attending the University of Georgia, where he will be studying agricultural engineering. He is active in numerous school and volunteer activities including the Tattnall County High School Golf Team, Beta Club, National Honors Society, Future Farmers of America and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He has volunteered at the Special Olympics and the American Red Cross Blood Drive.

Mr. Hart's grandfather, Joe Hart, is employed by Duramatics (Rotary Corporation). "Without agricultural engineers we would not be here today," Trent says.


Christopher Waters

University of Georgia


Christopher will also be attending the University of Georgia this fall to begin studies en route to his ultimate goal of obtaining a Doctor of Pharmacy degree. He recently received a College Preparatory High School Diploma with gifted distinction. He has received numerous distinctions including a University of Georgia Certificate of Merit. He participated in the Tattnall County High School National Honors Society, Beta Club, Interact Club, Tattnall Bank Junior Board of Directors, Future Business Leaders of America and the TCHS Gifted Program.

"My ultimate goal in life would be to make a difference in someone's life" Waters says. His mother, Tammy Waters is employed by Rotary Corporation.


The Bill Nelson Scholarship Endowment is an educational charity designed to advance the academic pursuits of employees and the children of employees who work for member companies of the Outdoor Power Equipment Aftermarket Association. The Endowment is governed by five Trustees who annually review applications and make awards: Chip Armstrong, American Lubricating Co.; David Errick, D.E. Errick Inc.; Bob Phillips, Desert Extrusion; Ed Nelson, Rotary Corporation; and Bob Titterington, Phoenix Manufacturing Co.

The Bill Nelson Scholarship Endowment would like to extend its appreciation to these additional outstanding scholarship applicants for 2008, and their affiliated OPEAA member companies:
