Penny-Ante is a three-hundred page "Mag/Book" published independently out of Los Angeles, CA. Compiling an eclectic mix of individuals from around the world, our pages feature a wide range of written and visual works, personal photographs, interviews, and other mixed means of documentation from writers, artists, and musicians. Penny-Ante is a completely DIY venture. All design, artist relations, packaging, and press is done in house. With no paid advertisements, we solely rely on book sales, beneficiary events, and donation to continue what we do, independently. We aim to: - Provide a platform for independent thinkers and artists to express themselves - Advocate the arts & literature - Bring artistic communities together By bringing artists, writers, musicians, bands, performance artists, journalists, independent adventurists, poets (and the like) together into one forum, we hope to encourage our readers to explore all areas of the arts and realize how in many cases, all are linked. In addition to content, we also feature five to six nonprofits we feel are making strong strides towards their good causes, in hopes to inform our readers how they can involve themselves and help these causes stay alive. Organizations we have featured include, but are not limited to: Bonneville Environmental Foundation, WriteGirl, Animal Legal Defense Fund, Free Arts for Abused Children, and Mexicali Rose Center for the Arts. As of 2009's issue Three, Penny-Ante discarded this idea, and rather than feature, decided to give to one selected nonprofit. A portion from Three's book sales will go directly to Arts of Life, Chicago.
