MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF PLEASANT VIEW CITY, UTAH

Meeting was called to order at 6:15 P.M.

BUSINESS:
1. Discuss the statutory requirements for filling the vacancy of the office of mayor and the city's plan for proceeding with the task. (Presenter: Tim Wheelwright)
Mayor Pro Tern Wheelwright: after we establish the procedure for filling the vacancy and after the RDA meeting discussion we will call CM Clifford with the update. We are in uncharted territory with this vacancy. Pleasant View City has never had this situation arise. I would like to publicly thank Michael Wright for his service and at an appropriate time we will formally honor him for the period of time he serviced. I appreciate his service. Michael Wright's letter of resignation was received by the city on February 21, 2006. The resignation letter was read (attached). As Mayor Pro Tern I will act and serve as mayor until the interim mayor is appointed by the city council. Legal counsel has been consulted and we have begun to take the appropriate steps. The interim mayor will serve until January 2008. In the next municipal election the position will run as a 2 year term to get back on schedule. If a member of the city council is appointed as the interim mayor then that position will be filled in this same manner. If a city councilmember is appointed as the interim mayor, they resign their position as councilmember. A public meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 21, 2006 beginning at 7:00 P.M. to fill the unexpired term of the office of mayor until January 2008. Those interested in being appointed may fill out a declaration of candidacy and deliver it to Laurie Hansen or designee by 5:00 P.M. on March 10, 2006. CM Call: after the names have been filed, the council needs to identify the process at the March 14, 2006 meeting. CM Wheelwright: any member of the council applying for the interim mayor position will not be part of the selection process.
Motion was made by CM Bailey to adjourn the city council meeting. 2nd by CM Humphreys. Voting was unanimous in favor.
