Establishing a new wine region can take a lifetime. After years of experimentation with vines from around the world. Alba Vineyards are planted with the vines that are most suited to the unique characteristics of the Musconetcong Valley and those that produce the best quality European style table wines. A circa 1830 dairy barn was transformed into a modern wine making facility. The conversion was done with an eye to maintaining the character of the limestone walls and oak beam framing. In addition to the winemaking equipment the stone buildings also house the wine shop. Alba Vineyards has been open to the public since April 1984. Limited quantities of quality wines in the European tradition are produced each year form the roughly 35 acre winery. The quantity and availability of each type vary from year to year. A limited quantity of handmade "method champenoise" sparkling wine and a renowned Red Raspberry dessert wine are available. Also, Windsor Vineyards of Sonoma County, California have based part of their national operations at Alba and you can sample and purchase their distinctly Californian wines. By Mike King |
