   Festival Stories

Ivan Virlan, Moldavia--1991
“They applaud us in concerts, smile at us on the streets and wave at us from cars. All this excites us very much. We are all struck by the hospitality of the American people. Our dear parents (host families) do everything possible for us who are far away from our loved ones to make us feel at home. For this we are very, very grateful.”

Jakov Lungu, Moldavia--1991
“I visited many festival in many countries, but the festival in Rexburg differs form other festivals because I have the opportunity to stay with a host family. This is a special experience because it helps me to learn more about American life."

Matalia Belayeva, Moldavia--1991
“It is sad because it is time to say goodbye to new friends. Farewell parties are always sad since they mean parting for a time or forever. But this festival will remain in our hearts and minds forever because this festival was not ordinary for our dancers and musicians. We will bring home not only the souvenirs and notebooks full with the addresses and phone numbers of our new friends. We will bring home unforgettable memories of the days we spent here. We will bring homes hopes for the further contacts. And we think our new friends wouldn’t mind to come see our places. That is why we don’t say farewell to them. We just say goodbye since we believe that with the contacts growing between our countries we are bound to meet again.”

Rauesh Tripathi, India--1991
“It was one of the experiences. I was like a family member. They gave me love and affection as a parent would give….I saw that over here people are nice. This was the place I should come.”

"Srisakul, Thailand--1999
“We feel very welcome. We usually are homesick, but feel very warm with the host families. The children take the time to play with you, talk, try to learn our culture and dance.”

Letter Received, Belgium--2000
“Now we know people all over the world can love each other, speaking another language, having a different way to live, but having the dame values we believe in, speaking to the same Lord. We want again to tell you how we all enjoyed your country, the festival, the performances, the trips, barbecue, but especially our staying at your homes.”

Vakhtang Javakhadze, Georgia--2002
"We're so grateful to be invited to this festival. You're all very kind and well never forget that kindness. Thanks a lot for all you've done for us."

Caitlin Kline, Denver--2003
"It has just blown me away how nice everyone is. The people make all the hard work worth it! I just love seeing people smile when we get out on the stage."
