Environment:Districts - Geography

Junín lake has 4 districts: Ondores, Carhuamayo, Ulcumayo and Junín. Topographically the territory is more homogenous than the rest of the Department. All of the district capitals with the exception of Ulcumayo are more than 13,000 ft above sea level.

Here you encounter the plateau and the majestic lake of Junín, made famous by the historical events that happened there. The lake is one of the starting points, and is where the Mantaro River is born. Another tributary, one of the Amazon River, the Ulcumayo, also starts here and flows to the river basin of the River Ucayali, the high location of the province, conforms to the denomination of Nudo de Pasco, the meeting point of three branches of the central mountains of Peru.
