French Louis XV Bombe Commode


Description:

A rare and important French Louis XV Bombe Commode, circa 1745 to 1760 in pearwood and walnut. Having a molded case with curving sides and serpentine front, three dovetailed drawers, bronze hardware, a carved latticework apron, and resting on carved hairy hoof feet.

Measures:

32" tall

50" wide

25.5" deep .

The profile of the front of this piece as viewed from the side is serpentine and carved in the shape of a wave, with the top drawer curving out, the middle drawer curving in, and the bottom drawer which curves out again, but more flattened than the top drawer; reminiscent of the profile of a wave upon the water.



With a bi uilt in bank
A carved Tree of Life is above each foot.









The hourglass shape of the sides is said to be inspired by the curves of a woman's body.

Carved bellflowers, which symbolize gratitude.
