Welcome back to school !
The aroma of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches is in the air at Saint Paul School. 2009-2010 is off to a great start.
Here's a preview of what the middle school math students at SPS will be exploring first quarter.
6th Grade: Students in the 6th grade will begin the year by examining whole numbers. The order of operations will be studied-we may have to ask Aunt Sally for some help ! The quarter will end with a study of the language of Algebra. Solving equations will also be introduced.
7th Grade: The 7th grade will begin this year by learning how surveys are conducted, hoe data is analyzed and how data is displayed in tables and graphs. Watch out for any 7th grade student who may be asking you about your favorite pet ! They will finish the quarter by studying number theories and Algebraic reasoning--before he learned about exponents, the 7th grade Little League player kept making outs- he couldn't find the bases !!!
8th Grade: 8th Grade students will begin the year by opening up their "Algebra Toolbox" and begin building a firm foundation for high school math. Solving equations will be reviewed, graphing inequalities will be introduced and plotting ordered pairs on the coordinate plane will be mastered. For their project this quarter, the eight grade will "Get the Point !". The quarter will finish with a unit on integers and exponents.
Algebra I: 8th grade students who qualify have the opportunity to take a high school level Algebra class and receive a high school credit for it. They will begin the quarter by exploring patterns in number sequences. They will also review the concepts of graphing linear patterns. The quarter will end with a unit that examines the operations in Algebra.
