Rachel Ruth Seibert
Rachel Ruth Seibert passed away on February 27, 2008. She was born to Mr. & Mrs. August Wendt on March 15, 1910, on a farm near Grand Island, Nebraska. She lived in that state until young adulthood, and attended Union College in Lincoln. Lacking funds to complete her education, she moved to Los Angeles, California and went to work at White Memorial Hospital. While working in the laundry, she met a handsome maintenance man, Russell Seibert, and they were married in the summer of 1940.

Except for two years farming in Kansas, both of them worked steadily at various Seventh-day Adventist hospitals and institutions. Rachel became a licensed vocational nurse, and Russell a licensed steam fitter. They loved to travel the country, and often went camping, everywhere from Joshua Tree to the High Sierras. A high point of Rachel's life was when she took leave for two summers to work the Needles Lookout fire station in Sequoia National Forest. She dearly loved this experience and later wrote and self-published a book about her adventures there.

Rachel and Russell retired from White Memorial in 1975. They had long been planning their move to Zillah, where Rachel's parents had left a small property amidst the orchards. Her sister and brother-in-law, Sarah and Lester Snyder, also lived on the property. Later, they were joined there by Russell's brother, Jerry, and his wife Helen. Rachel loved the country life of gardening and canning fruit, with family close by. She also enjoyed cooking, reading and listening to sacred music.

Rachel was a faithful lifelong member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, and cherished her other family at the Zillah SDA congregation. Although she had no children of her own, she always gave of her time and money to sponsor and support many young people in Christian education or missionary endeavors. Her kindness and generosity were repaid in her final years, when she was given care and companionship by several of those in her church family: the Powells, the Robbins and the Coders. For this Rachel was extremely grateful.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her siblings Lucille, Sarah and Ralph, and by her nephew, Dennis Lynn. Rachel is survived by nephews Ronald and Wilma Snyder, Ed and Cheryl Lynn, Dale and Norma Wendt and by niece Marilyn Wendt Beck, as well as numerous grand-nephews and nieces. She is fondly remembered as a sister by Russell's brothers, Stan Seibert and Jerry Seibert, and will be missed by a host of friends and loved ones in Yakima Valley. There will be a memorial service at Zillah SDA Church on March 8, 2008 at 3:00 p.m.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Larry Luppino, his brother, Donald Luppino, and sister, Grace Berry.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Luppino, son, Ronnie (Nadine) Mason and family, and daughter, Sherrie (Bill) Patterson and family, especially his very special buddy, grandson Robbie Patterson. Sons, Lloyd, Ricky, and Mickey Luppino and their families also survive Larry.

Larry was always a strong man physically and in character. He hid his gentleness under a gruff exterior that didn't fool anyone for long. He will be missed by all whose lives he touched.

At Larry's request there will be no services until he and Betty can be laid to final rest together.
