Hazel M. (Leuning) Silvers was born October 8, 1915 to John and Inez Leuning. She died September 3, 2009. Hazel was a knowledgeable, active, involved person all of her life; from forward on her high school basketball team, to traveling, gardening, and maintaining a home. She and William E. (Bill) Silvers were married June 18, 1934. They celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary last June.
Hazel worked many years in the fruit industry. She retired as an executive secretary in the Yakima County Treasurers Office. She and her husband were active members of Parker Heights Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Carolyn Jewett of Woodinville and Janice Gill of Kirkland, six grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. She is also survived by brothers, Dr. R. Glenn Leuning of Buena and Elwood Leuning of Kenmore. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Ernest and Stanley Leuning.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested contributions to be sent in Hazel's name to Parker Heights Presbyterian Church, 5451 Konnowac Pass Rd., Wapato, WA 98951.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00am Thursday, September 10, 2009 at the Zillah Cemetery. Memorial services will follow at 11:30 at the Parker Heights Presbyterian Church. Condolences can be sent to the family at www.valleyhillsfh.com.
