President's Message for June 2008

I would, personally, like to say what a great May General Membership Meeting we recently had. The chicken and baked potato were very good, and they had three kinds of deserts! And that wasn’t even the best part. The highlight of the meeting was being able to gain probably over 100 years of experience in 60 minutes! Members Lynn Krause, Bill Bolker, Don Meyer, and Steve Scherer lead a panel on surviving a down housing market. This was simply priceless information available to all of our members. I would like to thank guests and member, Bill Basic, President of South West Suburban Home Builders and Mark Harrison, Executive Officer for the Home Builders Association of Illinois. On behalf of the Association a sincere THANK YOU to all of the panel members.
One of the points I felt they stressed was the importance of building a coalition with your subcontractors, suppliers, and lenders. By all working together solutions can be found for most problems.
Our association has been involved in a coalition in our effort to fight the proposed Will County Road Impact Fee. This coalition consists of our Association, the Three Rivers Association of Realtors, the Illinois Association of Realtors, the South West Suburban Home Builders Association, and the Illinois   Association of Home Builders. I would like to recognize the hard work by our Associations Government Affairs Chairman Tom Bartlett, Tom Joseph, government affairs  director of the realtors association, attorney, Kevin Hynes who represented SSHBA. Past President John Latimer, and First Vice President, Bill Slavik who served as members of the Advisory Committee.  These representatives voted not to implement a fee, and steadfastly represented Will-Grundy at the many hearings and functions. Together they produced an excellent full page ad in the Herald News with our position.
This is just one of the things special about being a member of our local Home Builders Association. The opportunity for you to participate in the future of our Home Building Industry. I truly believe in the principals of every one being equal and being able to express their views.
