Developing A Color Theme
Basic Color Theory
Web safe color chart
Introduction
There are millions of colors to choose from when you are developing a design for your website. Normally, you will want to select a color from a palette specifically designed for the Internet. Those millions of colors do not appear the same on all monitors. Some older monitors, especially in other countries can only display 216 colors. Some monitors simply do not display colors the same way. Some color combinations can look great on one monitor and putrid on another. What can you do about the problem?
The answer is to limit your selection of colors to "web or browser safe colors." There are two sets of safe colors. The first set is known as "name colors."The second are known by their hexadecimal codes. There are 216 such coded colors. If you generally stick to these colors, you can be pretty sure that the web page you have created will look the same on another monitor. As monitor technology improves and disperses throughout the world, the display problem will diminish.
This overview course only scratches the surface of the topic of color. However, you should learn enough to avoid making any big mistakes and to have some fun with colors. In fact, you may not have had this much fun since you started coloring with crayons in kindergarten.
