  3. The student will use more than one source to gather information about exercise and physical fitness.

Curriculum (subject area) Objectives: The lesson may be used in connection with a general physical education unit on physical fitness.

 

Grade(s): 6 - 8
 

  1. Grade 6, Standard 3 - "The student will achieve and maintain a health-enhancing level of physical fitness."
  2. Grade 6, Standard 4 - "The student will exhibit a physically active lifestyle and will understand that physical activity provides opportunity for enjoyment, challenge, and self-expression."
  3. Grade 8, standard 6 - "The student will understand the importance of respect for all others." (These standards are duplicated in grades other than those listed)

Students will use communication skills in order to work with their peers. In their groups they will speak openly about themselves and their bodies. They will also be expected to provide constructive suggestions and positive encouragement to their peers while being able to receive the same in return. This aspect of the lesson will not be evaluated formally but should be observed by the teacher.

  1. To set a fitness goal in one of three desired areas (muscle building, cardiovascular development, or developing a healthful diet) and work toward it utilizing a daily calendar to record progress and peer interaction for support.
