Backup Files
The Backup Files feature allows you to create a backup copy of all of your Web pages and save them on your local hard drive. With this backup copy, you can use the Restore feature to restore copies of your Web pages that have become lost, corrupted, or changed beyond the ability to be resonably fixed.

It is important to note that the Backup feature makes copies of ONLY the code necessary to create your Web pages. This means that it does not include the images files, files other than Web pages (such as documents), or files of other features such as the EZ-Catalog, EZ-MailList, or EZ-BulletinBoard. Note that it is possible to download backup copies of the EZ-Catalog and EZ-MailList in separate formats. See the Help text on EZ-Catalog or EZ-MailList for details.
To create a backup file, click on the 'Backup Files' link in the ‘Administrative Tools’. Select the options, either ‘HTML’ or ‘system’, that you would like to backup and click on the ‘Backup’ button. The browser will automatically prompt you to either ‘save’ or ‘open’ the file. Click the ‘save’ button and select a location on your hard drive where the backup will be easy to find. The name of the file will differ for each account. For example, if my account number was X338855 and today’s date was January 29, 2002, the backup file would be named, ‘Backup_X338855_2002-01-29.tgz’
The file format, .tgz, is the only file format that EZ-Restore will understand. Please do not tamper with this file in any way. Tampering with this file could have serious repercussions on your account and may cause your backup to become unstable and/or unusable.

This file is useful because it is extra insurance in case the unlikely event that something happens to our redundant array of disks. More likely though, someone that works on your eznettools will accidentally delete one of your pages. Restoring the backup that you have created is simple and fast.

To restore the files that you have previously backed up, go to the ‘Administrative Tools’ and click on ‘Backup Files’. Then click on the ‘Restore’ button. Then click on the ‘Browse’ button. Specify the location of the backup by navigating through your hard drive. Once the path of the file is in the ‘File name’ box click the ‘Upload’ button. Uploading this file may take some time, depending on the size of the file and the speed of your connection to the internet, so please be patient. Once the file is uploaded EZ-Restore will display all of the files in the backup that you have created and a checkbox next to it. Select the file that you want to restore by clicking on the check box next to the file. Warning any files that you select will be overwritten and you will not be prompted that they will be overwritten. Take note of your EZ-Pagebuilder files, if you have created a page in EZ-Pagebuilder there will be two files associated with that page. The ‘.html’ file and the ‘.pag’ file. In order to restore an EZ-Pagebuilder file to the correct state you will need to select both the ‘.html’ and the ‘.pag’ files. For example, if I built my ‘index’ page in EZ-Pagebuilder, in the EZ-Restore option there would be two files associated with ‘index’. They would be ‘index.html’ and ‘index.pag’. In order for EZ-Pagebuilder to work correctly, both of these files need to be restored. EZ-Restore may not list files that are associated with eachother next to eachother. One of the files may be at the bottom of the list and the other may be at the top but they must both be selected. Once you have selected the files that you want to restore click on the ‘submit’ button. EZ-Restore will display which files were restored.

Customer support is always ready and willing to help you if you are unsure and you want to make sure that your backup gets restored correctly.

We at customer support suggest doing a backup at least once a week or whenever you make a significant change to your web site. This is for your security.
