She was born April 25, 1943, in Salt Lake City, the firstborn of Vernon Lockwood Anderson and Joyce Margaret Roberts Anderson. Her middle name bespeaks the gift she brought to all who knew her. A precocious child with blonde locks and artistic gifts, she was an accomplished pianist and painter by the time she graduated from Brigham Young University High School in Provo, Utah. Throughout her youth, she set an extraordinary example of caring and excellence for her seven siblings. When the family moved to Salvador, Brazil, in 1962, Martha bore many family responsibilities while teaching English at the American Institute at the University of Bahia in Salvador. In the full flowering of her young adulthood, she left her family in Brazil in 1963 to return to Utah to render months of around-the-clock care as her mother lay dying of cancer. That experience had a profound impact on her life. Martha moved to Southern California, where she lived for many years and made many friends. After working in real estate, Martha returned to Utah to be near her father and her brothers and sisters and their families, to whom she offered extraordinary love and support for the remainder of her days. She worked for several years as an advocate for the mentally ill, most recently as a consumer advocate and coordinator for the Utah Division of Mental Health and on the board of the National Mental Health Association. Though she struggled with the devastating effects of bipolar disorder, Martha loved life, good food, music, books, films, conversation, laughter and her relatives. Blessed with a keen mind and great empathy, she helped her brothers and sisters and their spouses, and her many nieces and nephews, understand the value of family ties, always giving more than she ever received in return. Their gratitude and sense of loss cannot be put in words. Martha is survived by her father and his wife, Gerri, Ocala, Fla.; sisters Julie Anderson (Robert) Allphin, Alpine, Utah; Colette Anderson [BYH Class of 1964] (Tom) Gill, Sugar Land, Texas; and Susan Anderson (John) Schilling, Mattoon, Ill.; brothers Vern (Patty Henetz) Anderson, Salt Lake City; David (Susan Walker) Anderson, Salt Lake City; Jonathan (Sonia) Anderson, Bluffdale, Utah; and Laurence Anderson, Salt Lake City; 31 nieces and nephews and their 24 children. He had a very frail body and I could put my thumb and forefinger around his bicep in high school. He had a severe illness as a young boy that inhibited his growth. He developed a great set shot in basketball that he could hit from a couple of specific places on the court if he was open. He practiced by the hour on those shots on his driveway. I loved to play with him on pickup games because if you could get him open, he was money. He loved to hit the shot because it was a great equalizer for him. Scott was stricken with an assortment of childhood illnesses such as ricketts, rheumatic fever and other diseases that damaged his heart. He was not supposed to live past his 15th birthday, but he defied the odds and lived to be 54. Scott would literally give you the shirt off his back and was generous to a fault. He was well liked and known all over Provo and his many friends will appreciate any recognition he receives on the website (particularly his mother, Melba Anderson, and other of his good friends like Nick Faulkner, all of the Pierponts (who were his cousins), Charlie Floyd, and his wife, Carolyn Anderson, who did not graduate from B. I loved Julia Caine and Anna Boss Hart, who challenged us with integrity of thought and care for truth. I loved the old buildings and I recall many times considering the great people that had gone on before from its earliest times. I recall feeling warm and hopeful about the good people that would come after. I loved the rickety staircases to the upper floors and the candy store of the main lobby. And I rued the principal's office and the decisions that came out of them. Brian Ned Taylor Ashby passed away on October 8, 2017 in Houston, Texas. He was born in Provo, Utah on July 18, 1944 to Nadine Taylor Ashby and Robert Ashby. After graduating from B. Y. High in the Class of 1961, Ned went on to graduate from BYU with summa cum laude honors and to finish as one of two Utah finalists for a Rhodes scholarship. While at BYU, he enjoyed positions as a part-time radio disk jockey, talk show host, and intern for a Utah Congressman in Washington, DC. Ned always valued education and further pursued his own by obtaining a master's degree from Stanford and his J.D. from Yale Law School. After passing the California bar, he went on to practice law in San Francisco before moving to what he would describe as more hospitable weather in Orange County. While working there, he was president of the Orange County Young Lawyers and North Orange County Computer Club. In 1979, he opened his own law firm, where he continued to practice until his passing. Beyond his educational and professional accomplishments, Ned was a joy to those who knew him and a loving father. He is survived by his son James W.T. Ashby. Serving on 45th Year Reunion committee of Class of 1961, in 2006. ~ ~ ~ ~ HER OBITUARY: Barbara Barnett Harris, 76, returned home to her loving Heavenly Father on June 28, 2019. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by her six daughters and her sweetheart, Antoine. Barbara was born on May 15, 1943 in Spanish Fork, Utah to Owen Lee Barnett and Vesta Wright Barnett. As a young girl, Barbara lived in Spanish Fork and moved to Provo with her family at age six. She graduated from Brigham Young High School (B.Y. High) in the Class of 1961. She then attended Brigham Young University, where she graduated with her degree in Elementary Education. She went on to teach first grade for several years in both Utah and Iowa. She met her sweetheart, Antoine Harris, while attending BYU. They were married August 10, 1966 in the Manti Temple. Soon after their marriage, Barbara and Antoine moved to Iowa while Antoine attended chiropractic school and Barbara taught first grade. After school, they made their home in Orem, where they raised their six daughters. Barbara also had a special love for her two step-sons, Greg and Brad. Barbara was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served in numerous callings. She loved the Savior and strove to pattern her life after Him. It was important to her that her children and grandchildren knew of her testimony and her love of the gospel, and lived in such a way that we never questioned her dedication. She displayed unwavering faith in her Savior, especially as she faced numerous health challenges. She taught us the benefit of a good attitude even when facing tremendous trials, and had the ability to find the good and blessings that come from very difficult situations. Barbara was a dedicated homemaker. She was a wonderful cook and loved to make delicious meals for her family, and loved to entertain and plan parties down to the smallest detail. She was a talented seamstress and enjoyed making dresses for her little girls. Her home was beautiful and comfortable and she had the ability to make everyone who entered feel welcome. Her home was a very happy place. She loved being a wife, mother and especially a grandmother. She absolutely adored her grandchildren, and was happiest when surrounded by her family. She had a beautiful smile, a wonderful laugh, and a quick wit. She was easy to love. She had a special love of flowers, which led her to start a floral design business, “Flowers and Such” with her best friend Diane Berntsen. She is survived by her devoted sweetheart of 53 years, Antoine Harris; step-sons, Greg Harris (Cindy); Brad Harris (Tracy); daughters, Kristin Griffin (Rob); Catherine Griffin (Mike); Melanie Christensen (Chad); Allison Freeman; Elizabeth “Lid” Camberlango (Brian); and Emily Herring (Kameron). She is also survived by her sisters, Mary Linnell and Arlene Rigby; 26 grandchildren; and two great grandchildren; ten step-grandchildren and 33 step-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Owen Barnett and Vesta Barnett, siblings, Wilmer Barnett, Maurice Barnett, Owen “Dale” Barnett, Muriel Williams and step-granddaughter Elizabeth Harris. She was born in Evanston, Wyoming, to Glen and June Burdett. Her family later moved to Bountiful, Utah. In 1961 she graduated from Brigham Young High School in Provo. She has also served in many LDS ward and stake positions. She enjoys BYU sports, the Utah Jazz and getting together with her family. She has served as the Utah Farm Bureau Women's chair. They received the Silver Beaver Award after 30 years of Scouting service. They will retire from the Davis County Farm Bureau Board in March after 35 years of service, where she served as secretary/treasurer almost all that time. Kathy was born on September 7, 1943 in Provo, Utah to A. John Clarke and Xarissa Merkley Clarke. She was the youngest of 5 siblings. Her father strongly desired one more child and promised he would be a stellar, diaper changing husband! Kathy was a blessing to all. Kathy graduated from Brigham Young High School in the Class of 1961. She married Paul Allen Williams on June 24, 1966 in the Salt Lake Temple. They resided in Mesa, Arizona for the next 54 years. Kathy graduated from Brigham Young University, majoring in elementary education and taught in Mesa Public Schools during her early years of marriage. While raising her family, Kathy owned and operated her own Diet Center franchise, a program founded by her sister, Sybil Clarke Ferguson. Kathy later returned to teaching after raising her family of eight children where she taught kindergarten at Hawthorne Elementary School (now Hughes). Kathy was a lifelong, devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She had a strong testimony of the gospel and Jesus Christ. She was a loving mother and grandmother and devoted her life to her family. Her children were her greatest joy. Kathy loved learning and was an avid reader. Since the early 70's, her book club met monthly and the group were life-long friends. She was proud to be a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. Kathy was a lover of everything Christmas, decorating her home and bringing in the magic of Christmas. She was a gracious dinner hostess with fresh flowers, china and a beautifully set table. She loved collecting dolls of many varieties. Kathy was beautiful inside and out with a queenly bearing and was gentle, kind and gracious. She will always be loved and immensely missed. Kathy is survived by her one daughter, Jen Williams (Forrest) Peterson, and her seven sons, John (Liz) Williams, Brent Williams, Rich (Natalie) Williams, Rob (Heather) Williams, Scott (Nathalia) Williams, David Williams and Steven Williams. Paul Allen Williams, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed away peacefully, Thursday, March 28, 2013 in Gilbert, Arizona after suffering from aplastic anemia at the age of 75. Through years of struggle with rheumatoid arthritis, he is finally free from his earthly pain. He was born in Garfield, Utah on September 12, 1937, but grew up in Spanish Fork, Utah. He is preceded in death by his parents, Allen Berry Williams and Delila Gardner Williams and sister, Helen Ann Pawlowski. Paul married Kathy Clarke on June 24, 1966, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple and they moved to Mesa, Arizona where they raised their large family of one daughter and seven sons. Paul is survived by his wife, Kathryn (Kathy) Clarke Williams and their children, John (Liz) Williams, Brent Williams, Richard (Natalie) Williams, David Williams, Jennifer Peterson (Forrest), Scott (Natalia) Williams, Rob (Heather) Williams, Steven and by their 16 grandchildren. Also surviving are three sisters, LaVon (Richard) Finlinson, Edith (Keith) Barber and Marilyn (Cory) Grua. Paul was dedicated to his family. He was faithful to his heritage and strove to live a life worthy of the blessings he had received from those who had come before. Paul was a strong influence for good in the lives of his children, grandchildren and was a doting grandfather. He was an active and devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in many callings. In the last few days of his life, he admonished each family member to keep the commandments. His righteous example and strong testimony will be a heritage to all who knew him. Sorensen, age 74, quietly passed away on September 24, 2017 at 10:33 pm in Seton NW hospital in Austin, Texas. The family wishes to thank the staff of Seton NW for their care and understanding as well as the kindness they showed in caring for Elin. Elin has both a BS and an MS in Sociology and an MSW. Elin went into the U.S. Army with a direct commission as a first lieutenant in Medical Services Corp and served as a Social Worker until retirement from the Army as a Major in 1993. After her retirement she served as a facilities inspector for Texas Child Protective Services for just over two years. In this capacity she was able to see many of the beautiful backroads of Texas. Elin had the gift of music and as long as her health permitted sang for pleasure and for various groups. She loved to read. She joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as a missionary in France. Elin spent about two years with her parents in Ethiopia (when Haile Selasi was still Emperor). Elin traveled to many countries in Europe (over a dozen) and also traveled by bus from Ethiopia to South Africa and back again. Many of the countries through which she traveled now have different names. She also visited Korea, India, Australia and New Zealand. Elin served in the Army at multiple bases in the USA as well as in Germany and Japan. Her last assignment was at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas. She had a life-long love of Texas after being stationed at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas. Elin was preceded in death by her mother and her father. She is survived by her brother Peter Covey, her husband David Sorensen, her son John Sorensen, her daughter Mary Ann Kinsey and 5 WONDERFUL grandchildren: Vitya Kinsey, Seth Sorensen, Chloe Sorensen, Scarlet Sorensen and Violet Sorensen. Elin was born in 1943 in Flint, Michigan, lived in Gila, Arizona until she was about 8 and then her family moved to Provo, Utah where her father was a professor. She attended BY High School, graduating in the Class of 1961. Then she received her BS and MS from Brigham Young University. This was followed by her MSW from the University of Utah. David and Elin were married in the Salt Lake Temple on September 6, 1968. She performed in multiple musicals and sang in the regional tryouts in Utah for the Metropolitan Opera. We could also mention many other things she did however, her greatest joy was her husband (married for 49 years as of September 6, 2017), her son and daughter, grandkids and the sweet relationship she had with the sisters in Shoal Creek Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her grandkids call her Mina. Her husband, son, daughter and her grandkids find that there is a great hole in their hearts because they miss her so much. But they are sustained by their faith in the Atonement of Jesus Christ and His resurrection. They also find comfort from the sweet whispering of the Spirit that fills them with gratitude for this angel who brightened their lives. They are also bourn up by the assurance that they will see her again. Now their task is to live so they can all be together forever. The gentle, noble guiding light of our family, Bonnie G. Walker, 62, passed away quietly at home after a long and valiant struggle with multiple sclerosis. She died on March 18, 2006. Bonnie was born on May 3, 1943 in Washington D.C. to Lyle and Dorothy Curtis. Her family moved to Provo in her teenage years where she graduated from BY High. She attended BYU where she participated in BYU Angel Flight and many other activities. Bonnie was married in the Salt Lake Temple on April 2, 1964 to Joseph A. Walker. She chose to focus her considerable abilities on her family, neighbors and her many church assignments. She raised eight wonderful children who love her and will miss their mother very much. Her selfless service and righteous example are enduring blessings she gave to this family. She has created a legacy of love that will last for eternity. Bonnie is survived by her husband Joseph and her eight children. Class of 1961. Gilbert E. Davis. He was born on January 3, 1942 in Marne, Michigan. BYU 1967. He passed away on March 8, 2007 in Boise, Idaho. ~ ~ ~ ~ Deseret News article: Idahoan's Homemade Plane May Have Been In Stealth Test. An Idaho man says he piloted his homemade flying wing aircraft into Hill Air Force Base in 1987 in what apparently was an unofficial test of any radar-eluding qualities possessed by the plane - similar in appearance to the new B-2 Stealth bomber. Gilbert E. Davis of Boise says the shape and construction of his aircraft, if not its 35-foot wingspan, is similar to the B-2 unveiled Tuesday by Northrop Corp. in California.Each essentially is two swept wings with a bulge in the middle for a cockpit. Both use composite structural materials where most airplanes are made of metals, although the multimillion-dollar bomber's synthetics certainly are more exotic than Davis' plastic foam and fiberglass. To a lesser extent, Davis' airplane resembles a picture of the F-117A Stealth fighter the Air Force has flown secretly at night in Nevada since 1983 but announced just two weeks ago. Stealth technology is supposed to help aircraft avoid detection by radar, allowing them to slip through enemy defenses. Just how the jet Stealth bomber and fighter are built to achieve this remains a secret of the Pentagon. But Davis said space-age composite materials like carbon fiber reflect less radar than metal, and a flying wing's slim, smooth profile further reduces bouncing signals. ``The flying wing is hard to detect on radar,'' he said in a telephone interview. Stealth is not what Davis had in mind when he designed and built his recreational machine as a prototype for a larger version he plans to sell in kit form. However, that apparently is what was tested at Hill a year after the plane was first propelled into flight by a snowmobile engine in 1986. Hill spokesman Len Barry did not know the exact reason for the June 1987 test, but said, ``Apparently, it did occur.'' Davis had been invited to speak about his flying wing at the annual convention of the Utah Pilots Association, which had a dinner in the base officers club on June 5, 1987. He said then-Maj. Gen. Robert P. McCoy, since promoted to the Air Force Logistics Command in Ohio, had let it be known he would be in the control tower at 8 a.m. that day. Davis said the word came down that the base commander wanted him to fly the radar approach. Although they were not told why, both Davis and his brother, Ross Davis of Murray, feel the only sensible reason was to see how the flying wing would appear on radar. The brothers approached from the north. Ross Davis, a former Army helicopter pilot, flew a metal, conventionally designed propeller airplane with a radio transponder emitting signals to help show its position. ``They did see me,'' Ross Davis said. About 50 feet off his right wing, Gilbert Davis knifed through the air in his thin, fiberglass-skinned machine, which lacked a transponder. Mission accomplished, the brothers flew by the tower and returned to Ogden Municipal Airport. That night at the dinner, Gilbert Davis said, he asked McCoy about the results of the test. He said the general was like a seasoned poker player. ``You don't know what he's got in his hand,'' he said. ``I couldn't find out what they saw or didn't see.'' My name is Dan Hennis. I was the Pilot-in-Command, (PIC) of the reported flight in June of 1987. We flew my 1947 Ercoupe model 415-D that I had converted from a "C". Gilbert's brother was allowed to be the right-seater because Gilbert asked me. Ross was to be the radioman between Gilbert and us. As for the General's involvement, I was a Construction Manager in the 2849th CES based at Hill AFB. I contacted my friends in the General's AFLC office and asked if he might be persuaded to make an "unscheduled inspection" of the tower that morning. My supervisor, MSgt DeLott (I think) allowed me to take a couple of hours off to do this bit of PR for/with Gilbert Davis. If memory serves, the MSgt used this time to rub shoulders with the General and swing a special assignment he was wanting. It seemed all that could go wrong did that morning, from bad radios, to charging system on my coupe blinking out, to Gilbert misrepresenting the cruise speed we had to go while in close formation. We were nearly shot down, due to Gilbert circling over the alert KC-135s at the north end of the runway. I asked for a "mid-field turn-out" after making a missed approach maneuver, and was approved. When I thought I could reasonably make such a turn, right in front of the General's viewpoint in the tower, I pulled up and banked right in front of the tower and Gilbert followed second. He was a bit more daring and missed the tower cab by something less than 100 feet. It was reported by my supervisor that the General took a step back as Gilbert's "wing" rolled up flat to display his belly to the tower. I nearly lost my license that day from that stunt and vowed to never fly with a "nut" ever again. Gilbert is quite a designer, but his piloting skills left a bit less to admire. I think the world of him, but to this day, he is still a bit impulsive. As for the "testing" alluded to, the General never knew what his enlisted staff had cooked up for his viewing pleasure that day. Len Barry was specifically kept out of the loop and would have not allowed such to happen. There was nothing before it, nor after it. Gilbert has hoped to get a government contract by enticing the General with this chance flight. Never happened. With regard to the comment about the "Base Commander" -- it was standard practice to get the Commander's OK before any civilian flights entered the pattern. Otherwise the consequences might be a bit more hostile. It was reported later by another friend attending the dinner, that the General was not particularly impressed with our piloting skills. There were no jets, bombs, smoke, or mirrors. It was just a couple of "bug smashers" buzzing the active runway off the North end of Hill AFB that morning. In fact, the Rapcon was a bit bewildered as they reported, "that a flock of fast-moving birds were following the vintage Ercoupe on final and did a left-hand 360 over the threshold before moving off to the west." These are hands-on, eye-witness corrections. I'd hate to find history recorded without all the facts, or overglamorized to satisfy a thrill. I am sure the account was from a certain perspective, but inaccurate is still wrong. ~ ~ ~ ~ By-the-way, shortly after that flight, Gilbert Davis was badly injured in that same plane. It nearly cost him his life, and he is now paralyzed from the waist down and is in constant pain both day and night. He lives in Boise. Due to the extreme cost associated with his physical recovery, and no insurance, he lost his plane, his company, and the dream. I see him from time to time in the LDS temple and wish with all my heart the he had not broken his back in that fateful crash. The plane showed promise, but as in all aviation, is never forgiving... The last crash (or should we say "undesirable landing") was in Idaho at a small airport not too far from the town of Emmett. He lost engine power and was forced to attempt an emergency landing. In so doing, he was severely injured, and is now in a care home in Eagle, Idaho. He is paralyzed from the waist down. He is in great pain, but does not want to 'give up'. The project on which he was working was a lifetime venture. He must be admired for his determination and singlemindedness, but realistically there is no one else who has time or money to focus on Gilbert's dream project and nothing else. Gilbert loves to have company, but visitors must take great care to refrain from making him upset. He still wants nothing but to complete his project, but it could not be under more difficult circumstances. Frank Hennis. ~ ~ ~ ~ HIS OBITUARY: Eugene Davis passed away on March 8, 2007, in Boise, Idaho. He was born Jan. 3, 1942, in Marne, Mich., to Levi Walter Davis and Idella Marie Vipond Davis, the third of seven children. He was raised in Apopka, Florida, and later moved to Utah where he graduated from Brigham Young High School in 1961. He met Susan Kay Hawkins while attending BYU. On August 5, 1969, they were married for time and all eternity in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Gilbert was a dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who loved the gospel and his family. He and Susan lived most of their married life together in Boise, Idaho, where they raised their 10 children. Gilbert was a very talented and inquisitive child. He excelled in sports and was very acrobatic, and later in life learned to ride a unicycle, walk a tightrope, and walk on his hands. His older children will always remember his walking on his hands up and down flights of stairs or around the edge of the top platform at the Lava Hot Springs pool (before diving off, much to the lifeguards chagrin...) It was also in his childhood that he learned to love all things mechanical, tinkering with model airplanes, trains and motorcycles, and eventually working in a motorcycle shop, where he loved to test-drive the new BSAs and Nortons. But of all the things he grew to love as a child, airplanes were by far at the top of his list. For his eighth birthday, his father paid for him to take a ride with a barnstorming pilot - from then on his dream was to fly. Though Gilbert´s first attempt at building his own plane was foiled - when the 14 year-old´s secret workshop under the floor of the family garage was discovered by his father - his dreams of designing and flying his own airplanes were far from over. With little formal instruction or college experience, Gilbert went on to design and build several airplanes and propulsion systems, culminating on June 10, 1986, when he taxied down the strip of the Nampa Municipal Airport and lifted off - the first public flight of the Davis Flying Wing. News of the successful flight of a tailless aircraft of such novel design spread instantly through the aeronautical community. Gilbert graced the cover of numerous aviation magazines, including the January 1987 issue of Popular Mechanics. The single-seat aircraft flew beautifully, and a two-seat prototype version of the Wing was nearly complete when, in May of 1989, an engine belt failure forced Gilbert down near Star. Though Gilbert would spend the rest of his days confined to a wheelchair and experience tremendous medical problems including severe chronic pain, he never lost his faith, his love for his family, and his desire to pursue his dreams. His family is very proud of him and his undaunted courage and faith, and he will be dearly missed by his wife Susan; his 10 children: Mary (and F. Alan) Walker of Boise, Idaho; Katie (and Lane) Packwood of Boise, Idaho; Mike (and Michelle) Davis of Los Angeles, California; Aaron of Boise, Idaho; Sarah (and Lucas) Bollschweiler of Maryville, Tennesse; Jenny (and Michael) Kimball of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and Levi, Lynsey, Mallory, and Bethany of Provo, Utah; 13 grandchildren; and his siblings: Mary K. Nick owns a motel and storage units in Beaver, and has a home in Manderfield, north of Beaver. He lives part time in Beaver and part time in Layton. Served on 45th Year Reunion committee of Class of 1961, in 2006. @2006 ~ ~ ~ ~ HIS OBITUARY: Nicholas Larsen Faulkner, December 6, 1942 ~ March 14, 2021. Surrounded by his loving family, Nicholas Larsen Faulkner passed away peacefully at his home in Beaver, Utah, on March 14, 2021. Nick was born on December 6, 1942, the fifth child of William Charles and Bernice Larsen Faulkner in Spokane, Washington. Shortly thereafter his family moved to their fruit farm in Edgemont, the river bottoms area of Provo, Utah. He spent his childhood doing many jobs on the farm from irrigating at all hours of the night to taking care of the livestock. At the young age of ten, he picked cherries where he lost his first day’s wages for not leaving the stems on. Nick graduated from Brigham Young High School in Provo, Utah, in the Class of 1961. He had many faithful friends that he stayed in contact with until his final days. He learned the value of hard work from his dad and older brother; he was doted on by his three, loving, older sisters. Nick was blessed with a keen mind and a great sense of business right to the very end. He owned and operated many successful businesses in multiple states, which often required that he fly his personal plane, which he loved doing. Flying was one of his many passions. When Nick was not working, he could be found on the lake boating, snowmobiling in West Yellowstone, riding ATVs in the Tusher mountains, or riding his Harley in Sturgis with his wife and boys. In 1967 he met and married Karyl Skinner, who had two sons of her own, and together they added four more. They later divorced. In 2003, he married his eternal companion and love of his life, Patrea Rasmusson; from this union he gained a daughter and two more sons. He and Patrea lived in the beautiful valley of Beaver, Utah. He often proudly told his friends that there were no stop lights in Beaver; when the first one was installed, he was not happy about it. Nick is an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served faithfully in many callings. Several times he served as a Scoutmaster and was a great example to many boys. He also served as a ward mission leader, a ward clerk, and a stake clerk. Nick had a true testimony of tithing and fast offerings, and was blessed richly throughout his life. He was truly the best Dad, Grandpa (Gramps), and husband ever!! He is survived by his wife, Patrea Faulkner, his sons, Nick (Nancy) Faulkner, Jr., Chris Faulkner, Shayne (Susan) Faulkner, Courtney (Summer) Faulkner, Jen (Bryan) Alexander, Chase (Taisha) Powell, Austin (Kami) Mortensen, Jeff (Nancy) Skinner. 24 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He loved them all dearly. Highly involved with the BYU Alumni Association, he served as chair of the Phoenix regional chapter and in 1991 joined the Alumni Board of Directors, serving as chair of the Regional Activities Council and as a member of the Executive Committee. He recently finished a two-year term as President-Elect of the Association. Active in community affairs, Gilbert chaired a $1.6 million fund-raising campaign for the Desert Mission Food Bank. He currently serves as Chair of the Board of Directors of the Arizona chapter of the National Association of Christians and Jews. If BYU's Alumni Association president were to open a vein, his blood would probably run blue. That's because Paul E. Gilbert has been associated with BYU throughout his life and says he still feels inspired and thrilled every time he comes to campus. The Phoenix-based attorney's affiliation began in childhood when he attended BY Elementary, BY Junior High, and BY High School. He then attended BYU as a history major and served as student body president. His father, who died while Gilbert was a child, was a BYU assistant football coach, and his second father was a BYU dean. The roots go even deeper. His mother taught English at BY High, all seven of his brothers and sisters have attended BYU, and the tradition is continuing with his own children. "My wife Susan and I have consistently brought our children to Provo for Homecoming to create a feeling of excitement about coming to this fine school," he says. "Two of my children have already graduated from BYU, another is attending the university, and my last child, a senior in high school, plans to attend BYU. "That will make us four for four," he adds. "We do believe in free agency in our home. I have told my children they could attend whatever college they wanted, but I have always added that BYU was paid for." Although Gilbert attended the University of California, Berkeley, for his law degree, he says that, despite receiving a very good education there and forming some close and lasting friendships, his feelings toward UC Berkeley don't approach the depth of his commitment to BYU. Shirley Clegg Gregson Mullins, age 77, passed away on Sunday, December 6, 2020. She was born on May 23, 1943 in Macclesfield, Cheshire, England to Joseph and Doris Gregson. She immigrated from England in 1959. She graduated from Brigham Young High School in Provo, Utah, in the Class of 1961. Shirley married Patrick Dennis Mullins on June 18, 1961 in Preston, Idaho. Their marriage was later sealed in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple on March 23, 1966. She became a US citizen in September 1976. In the early years, they lived on the family ranch in Pagosa Springs, Colorado, then moved throughout the years with her husband’s Air Force career to Littlerock, Arkansas; Clearfield, Utah; Colorado Springs, Colorado; Stuttgart, Germany; Omaha, Nebraska; and finally back to Colorado Springs, where they have remained since 1983. Her work career started with medical transcription, hospital admission management, comptroller for the United States European Command Post (EUCOM) in Germany, concluding with Activities Director at the Kerrington Senior Living Facility in Colorado Springs. She also served within the Youth and Women’s programs of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the roles of Children’s Primary President and Relief Society President for 5 years which were the most rewarding to her. Shirley was blessed with musical talent and was a wonderfully accomplished pianist and organist. She loved all kinds of music from classical to rock-n-roll and taught piano lessons throughout the years to many people, young and old. She loved traveling to visit her children and their families. She was an avid tennis fan and kept up with all the international players and stats. She loved her family, her warm circle of friends, and above all her faith in the Lord. Those who knew her will remember her kind, gracious manners and her British quick wit and humor. She will be dearly missed by all. Shirley is survived by her husband Patrick Dennis Mullins, and children Valerie Sutherlin (Ralph Sutherlin), Veronica Everett (Karl Everett), Joseph Mullins (Jennifer Mullins) and Vernon Mullins (Tamara Mullins), her 12 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her eldest son Seth and her great-grandson Alex. Later solemnized in the London LDS Temple, September 10, 1958, he died November 15, 1985. Immigrated from England in 1959 with her companion, Joe, living in Salt Lake City. Was Queens State Certified Nurse specializing in mid-wifery in England. Worked in the newborn nursery at the University of Utah Medical Center, Salt Lake City. She was an active genealogist and temple worker. She will be remembered in our hearts and dearly missed by all who knew her.
