Sugar City, Idaho, received a grant in 2001 to create an alternate transportation path between Sugar City and Rexburg. The Idaho Department of Transportation funded this grant. There have been several routes investigated for this path. One path was along the railroad tracks, which was the path chosen for reasons of expediency. However, for scenic beauty, a path along the Teton River is also contemplated. A possible route would be to head south from Sugar City at South Teton Avenue. The trail would connect with a trail along the river at either the corner of South Teton and 9th North, or the corner of 9th East and 7th South.
