Meeting Minutes
May 22, 2003
5:30 P.M.

Status of current project behind Kmart
The land behind Kmart has been bulldozed, but the ground (sections 33-35) needs to be graded for paving. Alan Ball needs to be contacted concerning materials for the bridge.
Project near treatment plant
The City of Rexburg has purchased a trail cat that can be used to do the initial work on the trail. Arrangements for its use need to be made and a date set to make the cut.
City of Rexburg
The City of Rexburg is updating their comprehensive plan, “Vision 20/20.” It has been proposed that the Madison Rivers Greenways comprehensive plan be adopted into their plan. A presentation of the Madison Rivers Greenways comprehensive plan will be prepared at the next meeting. This presentation will be made to the Rexburg Planning and Zoning on June 19th at 7:00 PM and to The Rexburg City Council on July 02 at 7:30 PM.
Land Acquisition
The Madison Rivers Greenways has acquired the land consisting of proposed trail sections 19 & 20 and 31 & 32. With this acquisition the committee is now discussing the means by which the trails will be connected crossing Highway 33 (Rexburg 2nd East). Possibilities of going both over and under the bridge were discussed. This is a safety issue, as trail traffic would have to cross the highway to complete the full circle. Means for funding the project were briefly discussed.
Clean-Up Project
A clean-up project will take place on Saturday May 31st at 8:00 AM. Volunteers will meet on the portion of the greenways behind Deseret Industries. The objective of this project is to remove any litter, rake the area around the trail, spread grass seed and water the soil. If possible the hoses on the City of Rexburg water truck will be used to water the soil. A truck is needed to remove garbage from the area. The City of Rexburg is providing rakes and garbage bags for the project. The grass seed is being stored in the basement of the Madison County administration building.
Greenways Scope
The nature and scope of the committee were discussed. Does the focus of the committee extend to the city bike paths and park walkways in addition to the greenways? If so, is the name of the committee appropriate for its overall objective? It was decided that this matter could be brought back up in the fall, as our schedule of projects is full for the summer.
Next Meeting
The Madison Rivers Greenways committee will meet on Wednesday June 11th, 2003 at 5:30 PM. The proposed bylaws of the Madison Rivers Greenways will be reviewed and discussed. A presentation of the Madison Rivers Greenways comprehensive plan will be prepared.
