Adopt A Dog

Before you adopt a dog, ask yourself these questions:

1. Do I have time for a dog? They need to be with you, not stuck on the end of a chain, or always in the backyard. You should plan on keeping and caring for your pet for his/her entire life.

2. Am I prepared for possible problems related to bringing a new dog into my home? Moving into a new home can be scary and dogs may need special attention during the transition into a new family. Check out Dumbfriends League at www.ddfl.org for tips on handling behavioral problems. Go to our "Links" page for a direct link.

3. Do I know what breed or type of dog is best for me and my temperament? Investigate breed characteristics/personalities before adopting to try to find the best match for you.

4. Can I pay for veterinary care? Your dog will need it.

M Andy is a 2.5 y/o male Australian Shepherd Cross who is extremely affectionate and loves to be with people. He is house trained and well mannered in the home. Andy has some basic obedience training, is crate trained and great on leash. He is a smart and energetic dog who would do well in a home that continues his training and provides daily exercise. Andy enjoys going biking, cross country skiing and riding in the truck. He gets along well with the female golden retriever in his foster home, but can be unsure of dogs he does not know. Because of his background it would be best for Andy to be in a home without small children. Andy is a loving dog and will be a great companion. 2007 Sarah Adult

N M Flat Coated Retriever X. Housebroken, is in obedience training and doing well, but startles easily and his foster mom is working with him on socializing him and getting him used to new sights, smells and noises. Good w/dogs, cats older kids. Shy but warms up quickly, very laid back dog, all he wants to do is hang out with his foster mom and he loves to go for rides in the car. With some time and work this dog would be excellent for a Delta dog, obedience, rally etc. or just an all-round family pet that will keep him inside and devote time to him and include him in as many family activities as possible. He would easily pass a CGC test with a little more work and could make a great "Office" dog. Good w/ cows, horses etc. and he has never bothered or even cared about the livestock. He is being trained on an Invisible Fence and is crate trained. He will retrieve toys. 2/20/2009 Teressa Young

F Flat Coated Retriever cross, Lacey is about 8 months old and was found as a stray with her brother Zack. Lacey is friendly, playful and smart. She loves to go for walks and car rides, is a great swimmer, and loves to retrieve. She is taking obedience classes and has started some basic agility. Lacey loves other dogs and would do best if adopted with another dog since she can become anxious if left alone. She is working on crate training. Lacey is also good with cats and kids. 2/20/09 Stacie Young
