Q. Do I need an appointment to come in for an estimate? How much does an estimate cost?

A. You never need an appointment to get an estimate for repairing your vehicle. DMI would prefer that you give us some idea when you intend to come in so that we can devote our full attention to serving you. Of course, estimates are always free.

Q. Why won't you give me a quote over the phone?

A. There are simply too many variables to consider when estimating how many action steps are needed to repair a vehicle. Even when a vehicle is viewed in person, often times there will be "little gremlins" hidden from sight until certain parts or the surface paint materials are removed. It would not be PROFESSIONAL if we quoted you a price that we knew bare no resemblance to the truth.

Q. This is my first accident. What are the steps involved in getting my vehicle repaired after an accident?

A. First of all, at the time of the accident always write down as much information about the other person(s) involved as you can. Utilize a checklist (available free from DMI) because emotionally you'll probably be in shock and not able to think clearly. Obtain your information from official documentation (i.e. Drivers License, Proof of Insurance, etc) Also file a police report and maintain a copy.

  • Step One -- Come down to DMI and get a free estimate. This allows you to become an informed consumer; from which you can make sound decisions. This also helps us to determine what parts are needed and to set a date for scheduling your vehicle in.
  • Step Two -- Decide whether you wish to handle your repairs through your insurance company, via someone else's financing, or on you own. If you decide to either go through insurance or have someone else pay for the repairs, then contact them and report your accident and tell them that you're taking the vehicle to DMI. You might be asked to get 2 or 3 estimates. Just remember that it is your choice as to where you take your vehicle. If you tell them that you only have confidence in a particular shop, they must honor that. When talking with an Insurance Company, always get a claim #. contact name and phone number.
  • Step Three -- Bring your vehicle into DMI and relax.

Q. How long will it take to fix my vehicle?

A. Of course, repair times vary depending upon the extent of damage that's being repaired. We complete some repairs in just one day and there are the occasional 'train wrecks' that take several weeks. On average, when a vehicle gets dropped off on Monday, it will be finished by the following Friday.

Q. How am I going to 'get around' when my vehicle is your shop?

A.DMI will assist you with a rental vehicle from either Advantage, Enterprise or Hertz. We can even have the vehicle waiting for you at our shop fully gassed up and running when you drop off the vehicle. Remember, if you're using your insurance coverage for repairs, you should check your policy to see if you've elected rental car coverage. (DMI recommends that you always elect to have rental car coverage on your insurance policy) Also, remember if someone with insurance is at fault for hitting you in an accident, then (generally speaking) you're entitled to a rental car.

Q. Do you guys restore classic cars or specialty vehicles?

A. Yes indeedy!
