Part 2 - Cropping your picture to focus on the important elements
Most photographs have too much extraneous material. Cutting away the less important parts of the picture will often improve the impact and visual appeal. This process, called cropping, is available in photo preparation software. In your software, look in the menu across the top or search the help text to learn how to crop in the software on your computer. Below are two examples of how you might crop a picture. The original photos might be good, but by zooming in on the center of focus, the impact is much greater in both pictures.

Now that you are aware of how cropping improves a photo, look for it in photos in newspapers, magazines and especially in the movies. Notice how often in a movie the camera zooms in so close to a face that it nearly fills the entire screen. Understanding this principle, you will also take better pictures in the first place because you will get closer to your subject.
