STEM for this Old House of Worship is an energy management program specifically for faith communities. Our staff of skilled instructors is available to assist these communities in finding ways to save energy and money. This program is designed to be intergenerational and ecumenical.
A STEM for this Old House of Worship program can be for one or several faith communities, with a limit of 30 participants. They can be any age, high school student to senior citizen, and do not need to have a technical background. The program is 15 hours in length. It can be scheduled as either three five-hour sessions (Saturdays) or five three-hour sessions (weeknights).
STEM for this Old House of Worship participants will examine all aspects of energy use: heating, lighting, air conditioning, water heating, ventilation, controls and the building envelope. Each session of STEM for this Old House of Worship will focus on a different energy system. When the program includes more than one faith community, each session will be held in a different building.
Upon completion of the formal instruction, each faith community’s team will complete a detailed study of their building, calculate the potential savings and prepare a report. Included in the report will be information on rebates and sources of funding to implement recommendations. It is expected that each team will present its report to its own congregation.
