Using Mirror Blocks

4. Cautions
Don't change the layout of the mirror page.

Once you've created your mirror page, we recommend you not change the layout of it. This is because changing the layout can cause the mirroring pages to mirror the wrong block. This is because it mirrors them based on their block number.

For example, if your mirror page has one block, "1. - Text-Advanced", which is mirrored onto every page and you insert a title block before it, the title block will be "1. - Title", and the advanced text block will become "2. - Text-Advanced". Because each page mirrors block 1, they will mirror the title block instead of the text-advanced block.

The links to the left demonstrate this problem using the Upper Valley Art Guild (UVAG) web site as an example.
  • View the link that shows the home page.  This shows how the page should appear.
  • View the link that show the page that is the source of the mirror for the header section.
  • View the next link that shows how something was added ahead of the original header.
  • View the next link that shows how the new block has taken the position of the original header section.
It is for this reason that we also recommend you NOT use your index.html page as a mirror for the other pages because if you ever need to change the layout of your home page, it will mess up all the other pages' mirror blocks. You should have a mirror.html page instead that is dedicated just to one or more mirror blocks.

To edit mirror blocks, open the mirror page, not the page that mirrors the mirror page.

To try to edit a mirror block by opening one of your normal web pages is a common mistake. When you try, however, you'll be presented with a list of blocks instead of an actual interface for editing the contents of the block(s). This is because those blocks are contained in a whole different page. You'll need to open that page in EZ-PageBuilder to edit the mirrored block(s). If you don't know what page the mirror block is using, click on the pencil icon for the mirror block. You'll then see which page and block is being mirrored.
