About Us
Habitat for Humanity® Idaho Falls Area Affiliate

Habitat Idaho Falls Area is a locally run affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International®, a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing organization.  We are a volunteer-based affiliate, with three paid employees.  We rely on and are grateful for the commited long term support of the Idaho Falls community.

Our community's donations of materials, money, volunteer hours, and items to sell in the ReStore® support our work to build simple, decent, affordable housing in partnership with families in need who work hundreds of sweat equity hours as build partners.  Habitat is a hand up, not a handout.

The Idaho Falls Area Habitat for Humanity® affiliate was founded in 1994. A total of 25 homes are complete.

Our affiliate builds green, energy and water efficient homes.  The first Energy Star rated home in Idaho was built by the Idaho Falls Area affiliate. Six Energy Star homes have been built since 2003. We build plans #901, #1092 and #1288 of the National Affordable Housing Network. Please visit www.nahn.com  for  more information on energy efficient home designs.

Houses are sold to their Build Partners at no profit and with no interest charged.  Build Partner families invest hundreds of hours of labor - "sweat equity" - into building their homes and the homes of others. Their mortgage payments go into a revolving Fund for Humanity® that is used to build more homes.

Volunteers provide most of the labor, and individual and corporate donors provide money and materials to build Habitat houses.

Habitat for Humanity International®  was founded in 1976 by Millard Fuller.  Since then Habitat has built over 150,000 homes.  Prices for Habitat homes built outside the U.S. varies from $800 to $5,000.  The average price of U.S. built homes is $46,000.

There are more than 2,300 active Habitat for Humanity® affiliates in 92 countries, including all 50 states of the United States, the District of Columbia, Guam and Puerto Rico.

Habitat invites people of all backgrounds, races and religions to build homes together in partnership with families in need.
